The
RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) Directive 2002/95/EC
(January 27, 2003) by the European Union states that from July 1,
2006 new electrical and electronic equipment must be free of lead,
mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs)
and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs). In conjunction with the
WEEE (Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment) Directive
2002/96/EC (January 27, 2003), the purpose of these actions is
"to contribute to the protection of human health and the
environmentally sound recovery and disposal of waste electrical and
electronic equipment." |
